The Daylan Show
Season 5 Episode 12- Featuring Kirsten "KK" Deans
Former Ole Miss basketball star, Kirsten "KK" Deans joined me on the show this week!
A native of Greensboro, North Carolina Deans spoke on the importance and values of growing up in North Carolina, and how the fortune of having impactful family members helped develop her.
Picking up a basketball at a very young age, Deans quickly fell in love with the game and everything that came with turning her into the best players in the country.
One of the top prospects in the country, Deans received her first collegiate offer in eighth grade, eventually committing to West Virginia University. She spoke about the process in choosing WVU, as well the in depth analysis of transferring to Florida and Ole Miss throughout her career.
Grained in positivity and the passion of serving Jesus Christ, Deans spoke much throughout the episode about the importance of having a relationship with God for her, and how being surrounded by praying hands has helped her life tremendously.
After suffering a season ending injury after two great years at WVU, Deans would transfer to The University of Florida. Cementing her resume as one of the best offensive players in the country during her one year spell at Florida, Deans took the opportunity to elevate her culture and game to Ole Miss in 2023.
During her first season at Ole Miss, Deans would suffer another season ending injury, a lot of setbacks, but Deans never failed to continue fighting towards her ultimate goal.
One of the most inspiring journeys and stories you'll be able to listen to, Deans shared the importance of being apart of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.
Glancing through a collegiate career during Covid, two season ending injuries, and a plethora of other things Deans shared how NIL has changed her life and career and how important it really is for student athletes.
As always I ask my guests to share a piece of advice for people to remember, and what legacy do you want to leave behind. This is what Deans left me with: "Live your own life, be where your feet are don't dwell on what you don't have, be grateful for what you do have, and always take the time to encourage other people. I want to be remembered as the person that always does those things"
