Season 5 Episode 5- Featuring Kyla McLaurin
Former Ole Miss Track and Field star, Kyla McLaurin joined me for episode number five! Originally from Germantown, Tennessee she recently competed in her final competition as a Ole Miss athlete, and what a career it was for her, truly life changing for her, but for Oxford as well.
As we continue to move forward in the journey of sharing stories, I continue to uplift my Lord and savior Jesus Christ. Kyla was kind enough to share her story in acquiring a relationship in faith, and it’s truly something to hear, especially for college students struggling to find guidance in the real world.
Guided by a strong relationship with her parents, she learned so much from the two of them throughout the experiences of traveling, and the wisdom of advice from them.
Beginning her track career in eighth grade, she was pointed in the direction of triple jumps by one of her coaches, and this transformation would change her life.
One of the more remarkable recruiting processes I’ve ever been able to listen to, McLaurin ended up choosing Ole Miss because they were the only school of 30 to contact her back after a short email introduction with some tapes of her abilities.
Immediately falling in love with Ole Miss, the transition from high school to college was smooth for her, but was quickly humbled by the intensity of competing for a D1 school.
This is what she left me with, “you can’t let something affect you that you can’t control, everyday just try to be positive, and you never know what someone’s going through”
One of the most honest, vulnerable, and pure conversations I’ve ever had. I am so grateful I got to sit down with this incredible young lady, her energy was amazing, and I hope her story and our conversation uplifts your life in some shape or form!!
