Are you excited? I sure am, Vice Chancellor for Access and Community Engagement at The University of Mississippi, Cade Smith joined me for episode number two!

A native of Grenada, Mississippi Cade had one of the most compelling stories I’ve ever been able to listen to. One of the more important ways that describes Cade, is his love for the gym. His passion, and way of therapy starting at 12 years old, investing in the opportunity to play football at a later age.

Speaking very highly about the characteristics of his family, especially his parents, and the value that they instilled in him, helping him become the man that he is today.

One of the highly anticipated topics that I got to chat with Cade about, was the racial lifestyle for him growing up in Mississippi, and how the transfer to public schools at a young age significantly changed his life for the better.

Attending Rhodes College for his bachelor's degree, Smith was able to attend while also playing football for the school's team. “Seven inches” from going to the NFL, Cade’s words, not mine, football significantly changed his life, and opened the door for greater pastures for a hard headed young man.

Obtaining his Masters degree from The University of Arkansas, and his Ph.D from Mississippi State University, Cade gained much life affirmation throughout college, but honesty was shared too. Graduating in five years with his bachelors, and actually dropping out, Cade was open enough to share his journey, and why you should never give up on your journey, despite challenges.

After obtaining his Ph.D, Smith would stay in Starkville for 22 years, completing a lifetime of achievements, and changing many lives for the better. After 22 years at Mississippi State, Smith would move to Ole Miss with a similar idea, improve diversity, and grow the intensity of education to its highest level.

This is the advice Smith gave to share, “If someone causes you to have a negative response, that’s someone you need to get to know better”.
