The Daylan Show
Season 5 Episode 1- Featuring Dr. Ethel Scurlock
The time, the moment, The Daylan Show is back!!!! Welcome to the five year anniversary, I’m so excited to have you here!! Joining me for the very first episode of season five, is the Dean of the Sally McDonell Barksdale Honors College, Dr. Ethel Scurlock. Originally from Memphis, Tennessee, a true love for her hometown, Dr. Scurlock speaks very highly about her neighborhood and the ethics and people that made her into the woman she is today.
Imbedded in black history, Dr. Scurlock shared an amazing story about James Meridith. His passions and sacrifices changed her life, and she hopes to continue to build on the efforts he put forth.
The very first Black woman to be the Dean of the Sally McDonell Barksdale Honors College, her purpose is to continue to fulfill the mantra of being the flagship school in Mississippi.
Truly indebted in history, Dr. Skurlock would attend the University of Tennessee gaining her bachelor's degree, and Bowling Green State University for her Masters and Ph.D
“Focus on where you are now, focus on being the best you can be right now, and it almost always opens the door to the next things”
Being a wife and a mother has truly been the most important thing in Dr. Skurlocks class. Changing her life, for the better, she has been blessed with two beautiful daughters, and continues to live her life to better there's.
A difficult conversation, but Dr. Scurlock spoke heavily about the passing of her first husband.
The emotions she went through, and she coped and questioned the moment of losing her husband. If you’re dealing with any type of grief, please listen to her story about her experience.
Transitioning from the south to the north was truly one of the hardest growing moments in her life, a change of culture, food, and lifestyle. But, she prospered, and throughout her time in Ohio, she pursued her calling of becoming a pastor, yet it faced many uphill battles.
Throughout her time in college, she pledged Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. Speaking highly of her organization, and the impacts that it made on her relationship with God and her education.
