The Daylan Show
Season 4 Episode 19- Featuring Nigel Marcellus
Author, public speaker, and content producer Nigel Marcellus joined me on the show this week! Originally from Malden, Massechuettus, Nigel is currently working on his PhD in Media Studies and Communication.
Nigel and I had an array of conversations throughout this episode, and one of the big topics was his children's book. The book is aimed at diversity, since through his research and his own experiences reading as a child, he discovered few books had any Black characters. He aimed to change that and in 2017, he created “The Endless Possibilities” and got it published in 2023. The book has now sold over 1,000 copies and has allowed Nigel to travel the country talking about his book.
An advocate for healthy love, Nigel discussed his parents' marriage, what it has meant for his life, and why healthy love is so important to him. Nigel does podcast work and in-depth interviews with people that truly break down a lot of vital topics within our everyday society, ranging from love, mental health, and messages for Black people.
Mentorship is very big for Nigel, as he has worked with young people from kindergarten to college, and it’s simply because he sees himself a lot in younger people. He wants people in his age range to understand that they’re not alone and that everyone struggles. Networking is huge for Nigel, and his love to pour into the youth is not unnoticed.
Nigel has worked on some short films as well, and his own insecurities pushed his motivation in making short films. Working with a group of close friends on the films and doing things such as shooting a film in 24 hours is meaningful to him.
“I want people to remember that I made a difference. I wasn’t perfect, I was flawed, but I was still worthy. Even through insecurities, even through fear, I created a way for myself and for other people, and I hope my work empowers other people to do what they do best as well.”
This was truly one of the most in-depth conversations I have ever had. I’m truly glad I had this conversation with Nigel because it depicted what season four has been all about in my eyes–going against the grain and having some important conversations with people outside of just sports–and this episode exemplifies that perfectly. Please enjoy this episode folks, but also learn and listen to what Nigel shares. Every second of it is important. He is changing people's lives every day, and I’m glad he felt comfortable enough to share so many things with me! As well, make sure you take a look at his work!
