The Daylan Show
Season 4 Episode 18- Featuring Alexis Pierce
Sports journalist Alexis Pierce joined me on the show this week! A native of Savannah, Georgia and growing up in a family oriented around sports, Alexis played many sports throughout her youth. As she continued to grow older, her basketball skills continued to thrive more than anything. Starting on the varsity squad as a freshman year in high school, Alexis thrived and gained a great amount of offers throughout her AAU journey.
Attending Jacksonville University, at the time under Head Coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin, Alexis truly felt at home with the campus and staff and felt that JU was the best decision for her. Alexis grew every year as a player at JU, and when Coach Yo left and Darnell Haney took over, the transition was very smooth for her career.
After a fantastic run at JU, Alexis truly had no idea what was planned for her life after she graduated. She took the benefit of an extra year of eligibility and transferred to Tennessee State University. Coming into a new system with a new staff, Alexis was very grateful for her opportunity to play at TSU. She believed that a year in her new environment benefited her in the long run.
After her time at TSU, Alexis interned for the SEC, working closely with the media side as a social and digital intern. She gained a lot of knowledge about marketing the conference and was able to run the ins and outs of what it takes to keep up with over 20 athletic programs for 12 different schools. She speaks very highly about her time as an intern, and she gained many connections while continuing to work within the sports world.
Recently starting her new journey working for the all women's sport-focused organization Athletes Unlimited as a social media coordinator, a dream job for her, she continues to work in the media side, as she and the company aim to highlight women’s sports and women athletes and help to elevate their careers.
“You only get one day, and God gave you a gift. I want to be able to utilize my gifts every day, and I want to be able to use my gifts to help others.”
