The Daylan Show
Season 4 Episode 17- Featuring Matt Zimmerman
Former Assistant Coach for the Arkansas Razorbacks Matt Zimerman joined me on the show this week! A native of St. Vincent, Arkansas, Matt grew up within a military household and was an athlete at heart from a young age. Matt played basketball all throughout high school, and had a dream of playing under the late Eddie Sutton at Arkansas.
Eddie would leave Arkansas as Matt graduated, but in came Nolan Richardson. As a walk-on, Matt would eventually be asked to be a student manager by then assistant coach Mike Anderson. Matt relished throughout his next few years and then followed in his father’s footsteps and joined the military for five years.
After his time in the Army, Matt returned to Arkansas and coached high school basketball in the River Valley for many years. Continuing to grow and enjoy his love for basketball in the River Valley, he soon got an opportunity that he simply couldn’t pass up on. Mike Anderson had recently arrived at The University of Alabama at Birmingham, and Anderson gave Matt a call to come and join him. After many conversations and thoughts, Matt accepted the role.
Enjoying four years at UAB, Anderson gained the Head Coach job at Missouri in 2006, and his name and resume would skyrocket with continued success there. A full circle moment for Matt and Coach Anderson happened in 2011, when the coaching vacancy at Arkansas came available. Jeff Long made the call, and back to Fayetteville Matt went. After a special eight-year run, a coaching change occurred, and Eric Musselman arrived. Not wanting to leave Arkansas, Matt sought out ways to stay in Fayetteville, and found a new path.
Working in radio, podcasts, and at a new Razorback foundation, Matt is still a true face for the Hogs and is enjoying life more than ever now. Now working in depth to give fans a more inside vision of all Razorback athletics, Matt and staff have taken the Hogs’ media by storm over the last few years.
“Half the battle is showing up, do the little things, don’t take yourself too seriously. You have to enjoy life. As well, try not to worry too much, life will happen, and you have to do your best to speak good things into existence.”
Matt is a man who has a deep love for Razorback basketball, just like myself. I enjoyed this so much. I have adored Matt for a very long time, and I’m so grateful to chat with him! Please enjoy, subscribe, and get you some merchandise!
