Season 4 Episode 16- Featuring Rashad 'KY' Madden
Professional Basketball player, Rashad ‘KY’ Madden, joined me on the show this week! A native of Lepanto, Arkansas, Madden grew up in an athletic family–his parents and sisters all played Division One sports! Although he was a devoted baseball player, his love for basketball would continue to grow as he got older, and his game grew as well as his name throughout high school. Madden, a four star player coming out of high school, and the second ranked player in the state, stayed home to attend the University of Arkansas.
Committing to a school in the midst of a coaching change caused a bit of gray area, but Madden stuck out on his commitment to incoming coach Mike Anderson, and truly is grateful he did so. His game grew tremendously under the staff, and the true family-like community caused his time there to be some of the best years of his life.
Madden has now spent ten years overseas playing basketball professionally and has continued to grow every single season as a player. The start was a very difficult journey, not making a single dollar throughout the first year of his career, but since that point God has continued to bless his career and lifestyle in a positive manner.
Madden recently started a foundation in honor of his brother who passed from sickle cell disease, and the goal of his foundation is just to give back to the youth and raise awareness for sickle cell. They recently did a charity basketball game, and continuously give clothes, backpacks, and money to help others, with no desire of gaining anything in return.
Continuing to grow in every aspect of his life, he intends to still be close to basketball after his playing career, and maybe invest into the coaching world while focusing on giving back to the community.
“I want people to remember me as a giver; no matter what I’ll give anything to help anybody. Everybody is meant to be used, but just don’t be misused”.
An incredibly fun, insightful, and deep dive of an episode, I hope you all enjoy this one!! Please leave a like, and subscribe!
