The Daylan Show
Season 4 Episode 13- Featuring Wesley Brooks
Utah State Head Women’s basketball coach, Wesley Brooks, joined me on the show this week! A native of Richmond, Virginia and a sports lover from a young age, Wesley attended West Virginia University. During his time there, he was the manager for the men’s basketball team under John Beilein. Truly enjoying this role, Wesley’s passion led him to become a graduate assistant at WVU for the women’s team. Beilein became a vital mentor to Wesley and helped him gain the job at Robert Morris.
A true student and learner of the game, Wesley worked with several schools throughout his journey: Robert Morris University, Texas Southern, North Texas and Utah. Working with some of the top programs in the country, Wesley would spend four years at Michigan, gaining a lot of notoriety and familiarity with the game. He left to work under Kevin McGuff, and it was an exceptional run. Big Ten champions multiple times and deep postseason runs allowed Wesley to finally gain his first head coaching job at Utah State.
A true leader and impactful person, it was very obvious how much passion Wesley has. “Empower, compete, and conqueror” is the motto for his basketball team, and he says that is not just for basketball, it’s about life–it's about helping in the community, it’s about inspiring the youth.
He left me with these words: “Have a sense of direction. You can’t achieve greatness if you don’t know where you are trying to go. I also want people to say he lived a Christ-like life”.
