WVVA news anchor Joshua Bolden joined me on the show this week! A son of Memphis, Tennessee and originally growing up in Atoka, Tennessee, Bolden spoke about the true relationship with God and his family. His close knit family poured so much life into him at a young age, which has helped mature him into the man he is today. As a child, Bolden loved writing, and that passion continued and blossomed into broadcasting, which became his career. The ability to find his love and gift as a broadcasting journalist was evident many years before adulthood for Bolden.
Bolden decided to stay close to home and attend The University of Memphis, mainly because of the cost of tuition, but the UofM truly was the place God wanted Bolden to be to grow. Becoming a part of a true family-orientated program at Memphis, Bolden gained so much knowledge, wisdom, and advice throughout his four years there. Gaining so much experience, whether it be from writing, radio, or anchoring, truly helped prepare Bolden for the real world of journalism.
Following graduating from Memphis, Bolden was blessed with the opportunity to intern in Harlem, New York and also study abroad in Germany. He then went back to college and earned another degree. The ability to travel and learn different cultures and study different crafts allowed Bolden to become more competent in many different aspects of communication.
A fellow student posted at the UofM something about his own journey to WVVA, and Bolden quickly followed to see if they had any news openings, which changed his life forever. Now at WVVA, in West Virginia, the transition away from Tennessee has been very smooth for Bolden, because he is doing what he loves to do. One of the more impactful things Bolden shared with me is his passion to serve and help others in any way possible. Truly being wrapped by love from the people in West Virginia, Bolden is beyond blessed that he has had the opportunity to be at WVVA. Still in the midst of his journey, this isn’t the end goal for Bolden. He’s not sure where life will take him, but he knows God's timing will be perfect when it happens.
The advice Bolden gave, “If you have a goal, whatever it is, think like you already have it. Be present in the moment, don’t try to rush things or life. This is a gift, be grateful for every moment.” He also said, “I hope when you meet me, when you interact with me, that I have helped you in some way. Even if I haven’t, I hope I at least made you smile.” This is the true compassion that Bolden wants to be remembered for. I had such joy having this conversation, I almost got a little emotional. Thank you Mr. Bolden, for giving me my flowers. Please enjoy, learn, and grow within this episode, folks! God bless!
