Season 3 Episode 18- Featuring Donnetta Johnson
week! A native of Queens, New York, Donetta was an athlete at heart from the beginning. She began playing basketball at a young age, and quickly stood out. A very uplifting and compassionate person, surrounded by great people including family and loved ones, Donnetta was brought up in humble beginnings from her time growing up in New York. She quickly became a top talent, receiving offers even in middle school. Johnson was devoted to looking into a program that was structured and family oriented, and she eventually committed to The University of Georgia. Even though she enjoyed the moment and found herself as a player, Donetta needed to find herself and grow up some, so she left Georgia after her freshman year and found her way with Coach Yo and Ole Miss.
Quickly becoming one of the top players at Ole Miss, Johnson’s career was derailed with injuries, but her mindset never changed as she continued to be supported by peers. She enjoyed her time at Ole Miss as a journalism major and grew and learned in a completely new environment and truly found herself.
Now graduated, Johnson is living in Atlanta, pursuing her career and has let nothing stop her. Truly one of my favorite players ever, she is now also one of my favorite people ever. This is what she left me with, “Never settle on the pursuit of what you’re trying to accomplish. If you think your dreams are too big, then they’re obtainable. I want people to know that they’re not alone, but that they can always be themselves and be relentless.” Such an uplifting story, and it was such an honor to sit down and chat with someone I look so highly to. Blessings and happiness sent to Donnetta! God bless you all! Please enjoy!
